The first months are for discovery – what you like, what you can’t stand, what are your deal-breakers, and what red flags you might notice. All these happen in the ‘getting to know each other’ phase of a relationship. Make this whole thing a lot easier. Laugh. Have fun.
Play some ‘get to know you’ games for couples and learn everything to know about your partner on a more relaxed note.
‘Get To Know You’ Games For Couples With No Supplies
1. Two Truths and a Lie
Guess who’s finding out stuff about each other? Yep, that’s right – you guys. ‘Two truths and a lie’ is the perfect game to learn all sorts of weird/enticing/obscure things about your significant other.
This game is exactly what it sounds like. One player must tell two truths about themselves and a lie, while the other player has to guess which one is the lie. This one is a great icebreaker since it’s an opportunity to get to know your partner, but it could also be an interesting distraction when you have known each other for quite some time. You never know what you might discover!
2. Truth or Dare
Just like ‘Two truths and a lie’, ‘Truth or dare’ is a classic. What makes it so popular is the fact that it’s easy to play and adapt no matter the context. Are you in for a get-together with your friends in the backyard? Are you in team building with your work colleagues? Are you looking for an indoor activity, or for outdoor play? ‘Truth or dare’ works no matter what.
It works even as a ‘get to know you’ game for couples. One player has to choose between ‘truth’ or ‘dare’, while the other one must come up with a question or a challenge, depending on the case. Now, this is the moment when you let your imagination loose. Use ‘truth’ to get to know your partner better and discover specific things you’re curious about. Use ‘dare’ to introduce foreplay into the game.
Here are some things you could ask if they choose ‘truth’:
- Have you ever been on dating apps?
- What do you think about open relationships?
- Have you ever sent nudes of yourself?
- Are you into sexting?
- How was your first kiss?
- Name 3 of your secret fantasies.
- How was it for you to lose your virginity?
Here are some ways you could challenge them if they pick dare:
- *If this is a drinking game, ask them to do a body shot off of you.
- Have them do a lap dance.
- Ask them to sing ‘Kiss’ by Prince. *This way, you’ll also see their dancing & acting skills, and it will definitely stir up barrels of laughter.
- Ask them to hit you with their best pick up lines.
3. Travel Trivia
Another ‘getting to know you’ game for couples that requires no supplies at all is ‘Trivia’. We gave it a spin and we named it ‘Travel trivia’ because maybe you’re on the road with your new boyfriend/girlfriend, you have lots of time, and you might be curious about how informed they are in different domains. Ideally, you should be playing this when you’re traveling, but also when you’re in bed, all cozy & chill. ‘Travel trivia’ works as a great game to play over text for couples too, since it doesn’t require any materials.
Here are some of the things you could ask your significant other:
- Q: Which restaurant’s mascot is a clown?
- A: McDonald’s
- Q: Which American president appears on a one-dollar bill?
- A: George Washington
- Q: What is Cynophobia the fear of?

4. Never Have I Ever
We couldn’t have written such a blog post without mentioning ‘Never have I ever’. This is a classic party game but also works as a ‘get to know you’ game for couples if you get it right. The rule is to state things you’ve never done. If your partner did them, they have to accept a penalty. You can get creative with this one: drinking a shot, taking off one item of clothing, or gaining points. Whoever reaches 10 points (or as many as you wish) first, loses.
We’ve made up a list to get things started:
- Never have I ever been speed dating
- Never have I ever had a one-night stand
- Never have I ever crashed a party or wedding
- Never have I ever dated a coworker
- Never have I ever used filters on my phone to make myself look better
- Never have I ever walked into a glass window
- Never have I ever been cat fished by someone
5. Counting Your Blessings
‘Counting your blessings’ is another ‘getting to know each other’ game for couples that requires no supplies at all. You just need to be in the same room together. Next, turn off the lights. If you want to make the atmosphere more romantic, go for some candles. Those should do the trick. The purpose of this game is to find out what your significant other is grateful for. Take your time to wind down, focus on your thoughts, then start expressing things that mean a lot to you. Here are some examples:
- I’m grateful for my family.
- I’m grateful for my job.
- I’m grateful for the life I’ve been given.
- I’m grateful for the great clothes I’ve just bought.
- I’m grateful for the time spent with you.
- I’m grateful for my home
Depending on the blessings he/she is counting, you can see what your partner focuses on – is it work life? Is it love life? Is it money, personal image, friends, family, or passions? You might convince yourself of the match, but you might also track some red flags, so, keep your eyes open!
6. Would You Rather
‘Would you rather’ takes ‘getting to know you’ games for couples at a whole different level. Even though it’s similar to ‘Truth or dare’, here, you must make choices rather than answer questions. Players must give each other two options to choose from. They are not allowed to skip a question or to choose both answers. Every statement must begin with: ‘Would you rather’. This is a great game to play with your new boyfriend/girlfriend because it gives you a bunch of insights into what’s going on in their minds.
Take a look at some examples:
- Would you rather be the cool and lenient parent or the strict one?
- Would you rather know every secret your partner has or are some secrets better left uncovered?
- Would you rather have more money or more time?
- Would you rather spend a day with your mother-in-law or with your father-in-law?
- Would you rather have an all-inclusive vacation on a Greek island or an all-inclusive historical journey through Italy?
- Would you rather hit the pause button on your life or the rewind button?
- Would you rather go to your favorite restaurant for a year or have to try a new restaurant every time?
7. Charades
Unless you haven’t been living on a desert island, you must know what ‘Charades’ is: a pantomime game in which you have to act out a phrase without speaking, while the others try to guess it. When it comes to ‘Charades’, ‘the more, the merrier’, yet it can be a fun ‘getting to know each other’ game for couples as well. You can learn a few things about your partner, such as: are they introverts or extroverts? What kind of things do they choose to act out? How do they try to explain stuff? Are they over-the-top competitive? What do they do when they’re totally stumped?
You can go for two-person charades, but you can also consider it a nice conversation game for when you’re having friends over. This will not take away from getting to know your partner better.

9. Poker
Now we’re talking! When you say ‘couple games’ and ‘poker’, you can’t think of anything other than ‘strip poker’. The main thing about this card game is that it’s so versatile. While playing poker together, you can learn if your partner is a good liar, if they’re prone to bluffing, or if they have a super spottable tell. Poker is also a fun relationship game because you can make bets about things like who does the dishes or, other, maybe more enticing things.
10. Monopoly
This board game is a great group game, but it’s also a way to see your partner’s reaction when there’s money at stake. You could give it a try next time you’re having some friends over! 11. The Artists
Recreating works of art has never been more special and fun. Especially if it involves your favorite +1. If you two are into paintings, sculptures, movies, and books, you have to put this one on your list because it’s a great ‘get to know you’ game for couples. Try recreating a famous work of art. You can use pen and paper, or anything you have at hand. Be creative! Household objects such as spoons, water bottles, pots, and pans are allowed. Don’t forget to capture the moment and post the final result on social media.
You could also turn it into a ‘minute to win it’ game for couples. Each one of you has to come up with your own work of art in less than a minute. Here are some examples of artsy stuff you might want to recreate:
- Titanic by James Cameron
- Thriller by Michael Jackson
- Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
- Für Elise by Ludwig van Beethoven
- Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
- Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci
- Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
- Candyman by Christina Aguilera

The cards are divided into five categories: family, intimacy, couple, individual, and past & future, which allows you to pick an area to focus on, or to mix it up! Based on the dynamic of your relationship, it might be challenging to bring up some topics, but ‘Love language’ can be a great facilitator of important conversations, such as personal deal-breakers or future plans. The questions are specifically designed to inspire these types of conversations and they can be played over and over again, as you and your partner change as people.

13. Blind Date
Get to know each other in a surprising way! Start by writing down 10 date ideas. Be as creative as you can get. You might want to skip ‘Netflix and chill’ or dining out and go for some scavenger hunts, crashing a party, or skinny dipping. Then, randomly select one of those when you run out of ideas or when you’re feeling wild and in for something cool! ‘Blind date’ is one of the best ‘getting to know each other’ games for couples because it shows you how open your half is and how well they respond to spontaneity. Having fun date night activities will strengthen the bond between you two.
14. The Grocery Store Race
We know that in the first phase of a relationship all you can see are rainbows and unicorns. Still, you will eventually be hungry. Turn grocery shopping into a fun activity! This doesn’t have to be a total drag! And it won’t be if you turn it into a contest. Duplicate your shopping list and see which one of you is the quickest to find the best deals. You can also split up the list equally and go from there. You can knock out a not-so-fun errand together and try to make it fun. Though this game is very light-hearted in nature, it can help you get to know your partner better by seeing how they shop and interact with people in the store.
15. Scavenger Hunt
No clue how to plan a scavenger hunt? Well, you’d better pull it together because it can turn into a great ‘get to know you’ game for couples. Use this to test how well your partner knows you and your relationship milestones. Create a list of clues about where you first met, who was the first to have a crush on the other, what your favorite dining place is, and other sorts of things, then join them as they try to solve it! If they get lost along the way, help them with some clues. Going out together, revisiting places, and doing things that mean a lot to you will definitely bring you closer. Remember to include a good prize at the end of the hunt. Hard work deserves a reward!
