Sometimes ‘Netflix and chill’ won’t do the trick. Sometimes you want to have some fun with your plus one, but you’ve already watched all the romcoms in the universe, and you’ve also run out of jokes. What do you do? Well, call your friends! Because we’ve got some great ‘Minute to win it’ couple games for you to have a whale of a time!

What are ‘Minute to win it’ couple games?

Just like any other ‘minute to win it’ game, these are challenges that must be completed within 60 seconds. Some may require supplies (such as cups, cookies, water, balloons, or coins) and some can be played with no materials at all. Anyway, you shouldn’t worry. The things required for ‘Minute to win it’ games are easily accessible and if not, they can be replaced (for example, you can go for some buttons instead of coins).

Now that we’ve sorted out what the classic version means, let’s see how couple ‘Minute to win it’ games differ. Players must be partners – unexpectedly, we know – since these challenges might involve romantic gestures. So make sure you’re ready to kiss, hold and help your plus 1 no matter what, especially if you’re in this for winning! And one more thing, you and your partner might even get to know each other better in the process!

The great thing about couple ‘Minute to win it’ games is that you can play them almost anywhere, anytime. As a group game, an indoor fun activity, or an outdoor team-building game, in your backyard, during summer camps, or holidays. 

1. The coin pyramid

What do you need?

  1. A bunch of coins
  2. Plastic cups or glasses
  3. Rice grains

How does it work?

  • Fill the glasses with rice grains.
  • Each couple gets a glass and some coins.
  • The partners must build a pyramid in the rice using the coins.
  • The couple who makes the highest tower in 60 seconds wins.
  • If the tower falls apart and there’s still time left on the clock, they can start again.

2. Flip the glass

What do you need?

  1. Plastic cups or glasses
  2. Water or juice

How does it work?

  • Half-fill the cups with water or juice.
  • Each player gets a glass. 
  • One of them starts drinking their water/juice, then they must flip the glass bottoms up. Only then, their partner can start drinking. They must flip their glass as well when they’re finished. 
  • Whichever couple flips both cups the quickest wins. 

3. Button sewing game

What do you need?

  1. Some thread
  2. A needle
  3. Cloth
  4. A bunch of buttons

How does it work?

  • For this ‘Minute to win it’ couple game, each couple receives a kit consisting of buttons, thread, needle, and cloth.
  • Couples must sew as many buttons as possible within 60 seconds.

*Note: If the buttons are sewn loosely, they will not be counted.

4. The tricky game

What do you need?

You’re good to go for this one. No supplies needed!

How does it work?

  • The couples must stand in a row and face each other.
  • There should be someone giving the instructions.
  • Players should do anything but follow the instructions. Let’s say that you hear ‘Kiss’. You could hug or… run (pun intended!).
  • The couple that follows the instruction by mistake is out of the game.
  • The winning couple is the one that manages to remain until the end of the game.

*Note: If you plan on suggesting this game, you could prepare the challenges in advance. Take some time and look for inspiration online, to make things fun and interesting!

5. Shave the balloon

What do you need?

  1. Balloons
  2. Shaving cream
  3. Razors

How does it work?

  • Blow the balloons.
  • Every couple must receive a balloon, a razor, and some shaving cream.
  • Spray shaving cream on the balloon.
  • One partner must hold the balloon by their mouth, while the other must ‘shave’ it with the razor.
  • Start the timer. The couple who gets to shave the balloon first, without popping it, wins the game.

6. The cherry pie

What do you need?

  1. Cherries
  2. Plates
  3. A flat surface. A table or a bench will do the trick.

How does it work?

  • Prepare the plates by placing 6 cherries on each of them. 
  • Each couple must stand in front of a plate, facing each other.
  • When the clock starts running, they must start eating the cherries using nothing but their mouths. 
  • Players that use their hands are out of the game.
  • The couple who eats all the cherries first is the winner.

7. Mummify Me

What do you need?

  1. Lots of toilet paper 

How does it work?

  • Who gets to be the mummy? For this ‘Minute to win it’ game, players must ‘mummify’ their ‘better half’ in 60 seconds, by wrapping them up in toilet paper. 
  • The ‘mummy’ who’s got the least amount of visible skin and clothing wins!

8. The cheese puff passing game

What do you need?

  1. Paper plates
  2. A table
  3. A lot of cheese puffs

How does it work?

  • Place 10 cheese puffs on each plate.
  • The couples should stand next to each other at the table, holding their hands behind their backs.
  • Every couple receives 2 plates – an empty one and one with cheese puffs.
  • A partner gets to be the ‘passer’ and the other, the ‘receiver’. The passer picks up one cheese puff at a time and passes it to the receiver, using their mouth. The receiver must use their mouth to take the puff and place it on the empty plate.
  • If the puffs are dropped on the floor, the couple is out of the game.
  • The couple who manages to transfer all the puffs to the second plate first wins.

9. Famous couple

What do you need?

  1. Post-its
  2. A pen
  3. Cellophane tape

How does it work?

  1. Write on post-its the names of famous couples. 
  2. Stick the post-it on one of the partner’s backs.
  3. The ‘tagged’ one must ask questions to guess the couple whose name is written on his/her back.
  4. The other has to answer the questions with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
  5. The player who guesses the quickest within 60 seconds wins.

10. Find your mate

What do you need?

  1. Paper bags

How does it work?

  • The partners must be separated into 2 different rooms.
  • One of them must cover their face with a paper bag, except for the eyes.
  • The other must guess their half without speaking.
  • The couple that finds each other first wins the ‘Minute to win it’ couple game.
